- Title: European Association for Machine Translation
The 22nd Annual Conference of the European Association for Machine Translation (EAMT) takes place 3-5 November, remotely. Iconic is pleased to be a part of this prestigious event once again this year. Carla Parra Escartín, Iconic’s Global Program Manager, is a member of the EAMT Organising Committee, and will be co-hosting a number of sessions during the conference.
The EAMT is an organisation of people interested in machine translation (MT) and translation tools. Users, developers, and researchers of MT will come together for this annual conference which showcases state-of-the-art research and best practices from academia and the global localisation industry.
Notably, Iconic’s work on building Neural MT engines for under-resourced languages will be represented at the conference as part of the PRINCIPLE Project presentation. The paper is entitled Progress of the PRINCIPLE Project: Promoting MT for Croatian, Icelandic, Irish and Norwegian. The main focus of this European Commission-funded project is towards promoting language equality for specific low-resource languages, which are known to be under-represented in the European MT landscape.
As part of the PRINCIPLE project, a number of data providers from each participating country have been contributing language data and Iconic has developed bespoke NMT engines to demonstrate the value of language data contributions towards high quality MT development. At the end of the project, data gathered will be provided to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) infrastructure to enable broader development of MT and language technology across Europe.
The research which will be presented at EAMT, whether about Quality Estimation, Human translation vs. MT, or low-resource languages, will undoubtedly be the current hot topics and cutting edge. We hope you can join us there!
