Cutting-edge research leads the way to another EU contract award for Iconic
- Iconic’s research directly aligned with e-discovery business.
- Iconic’s consortium awarded funding by the European Commission under CEF program.
- Project entitled MT4ALL: Unsupervised MT for low-resource language pairs.
Dublin – March 16, 2020– Iconic Translation Machines Ltd., (Iconic), a leading Machine Translation (MT) software and solutions provider, today announces its involvement in a consortium that has been awarded funding by the European Commission (EC) under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) call. The project, MT4ALL: Unsupervised MT for low-resource language pairs, will develop tailored tools based on High-Performance Computing technology, to create more resources for underserved languages.
Iconic’s CEO, Dr. John Tinsley, commented “We are delighted to be involved in this research project that directly aligns to our e-discovery business. The use case which Iconic will be addressing includes e-discovery, litigation, and M&A; processes which organisations within Europe frequently engage in. When working with low-resource language pairs, such as Ukrainian, Kazakh, and Georgian, these processes carry with them a significant translation burden because of a lack of data resources. The work we do on this project will help to change that. “
Tinsley continued “We have seen an increase in litigation cases across Europe, and having the capacity to better serve these low-resource languages will play an important role in future business.”
The consortium is led by Dr. Gorka Labaka of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Spain. Other members of the consortium joining Iconic include: the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) Spain, the State Secretariat for Digital Advancement (SEAD) Spain, Unbabel – Portugal, and TILDE – Latvia.
The two year project will run until December 2021.
