Introducing Stephen Davis, Iconic’s new Sales Director

Iconic had a strong finish to 2018, the best year commercially by far, and with that, added a new Sales Director position in December. This aligns with Iconic’s plans for an accelerated expansion in the legal field in 2019.  Stephen Davis, taking on this new position, will be leading the London office. Stephen has extensive experience in the field of Legal Technology, which is a perfect fit for helping our e-discovery clients integrate machine translation (MT) into their document review workflows. 

We met up with Stephen to have a chat and learn more about his new role at Iconic.

Stephen Davis joins Iconic as Sales Director of the London office.


Hi Stephen, welcome to Iconic! Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hello! I am a sales professional of many years experience with an unending curiosity about how and why things happen when people and technology come together. I have deep roots in the legal technology (legaltech) and regulation technology (regtech) markets and specialise in helping early stage companies get a strong foothold in new markets. Previously I have worked at CaseLogistix, Millnet, Thomson Reuters and LexisNexis in senior sales roles.

Can you tell us about your new role at Iconic?

I am very excited to establish a footprint in London. The UK, as well as the US, is a hotbed of e-discovery activity and there is great opportunity for Iconic. Primarily I am focused on leveraging our relationship with Relativity in the e-discovery market, and also directly into law firms and advisory firms. Having worked for both a software provider and a service provider I have extensive experience in how the market works and a keen interest in how it is evolving.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy solving problems that customers know they have, and also solving a few that they didn’t know they had!  As someone in sales, I enjoy meeting new people as well as keeping connections with existing contacts. In an ironic way, technology is a people business.

What excited you about working with Iconic?

Iconic has had great early traction, which I have witnessed firsthand. Feedback from new customers is really strong and was instrumental in my joining the team. The team is exceptional, packed with PhD’s who understand the nuances of the legal market, and of course the global market, and has built a compelling language translation platform that is set for growth in 2019 and beyond. I am very excited about being a part of this!

What are your hopes for our industry?

Interesting question as my industry is the practice of law, of which neural machine translation is just a small part. Going forward, we should demystify all that is AI (as buzzword of the year) and concentrate on getting quick, secure, effective and proportionate outcomes for our customers.

And finally, what is at the top of your “bucket list”?

A long pan-European tour on my motorbike! I’m planning it already but might need another bike first!
