Relativity Fest Chicago 2017 recap

Relativity Fest Chicago 2017 recap

Iconic’s duo of CEO, John Tinsley, and Global Head of Sales and Marketing, Diane O’Reilly, had a whirlwind time in the Windy City attending Relativity Fest, where we launched our new translation connector for Relativity.  The four-day event saw more than 2,000 e-discovery experts gathered together to participate in the much anticipated annual event.  Based on the atmosphere in the Hilton Hotel, and the flurry of tweets over the course of “Fest”, the atmosphere was abuzz with excitement over new improvements to the Relativity platform, as well as various extensions and use cases amongst the partner community.

Relativity CEO Andrew Sieja was greeted by a full house as he gave the opening keynote, where he went through some amazing use cases with Relativity, and announced 13 new clients that have now come on board the cloud-platform Relativity ONE. While all ears were on Andrew, all eyes were on the resident artist, Ryan, who created an amazing piece of art with a visual summary of all Andrew had to say!

In the community pavilion, we launched our Iconic Translation Connector for Relativity which was very well received. More than 100 attendees visited our stand during Fest for a demo of the new integration which allows users to translate data sets, large and small, in over 50 languages directly from the Relativity Workspace. Features and functionality that went down well included the translation of native files to retain formatting, and the translation dashboard which displays live translation activity and usage. Security was a hot topic too, so our geo-fenced servers and on-premise solutions were also a hit.

However, we’d be lying if we didn’t admit that one of the biggest attractions at our stand was the bottle of limited edition Jameson “Blender’s Dog” that we raffled off on the final morning of the conference. Andrew from Relativity was on hand to help us pick the winner and ensure a fair and transparent draw!

Back to Fest, the idea to “make moments that matter” was on everyone’s mind following Chip & Dan Heath (the Heath brothers’) well received presentation.  Perhaps somewhat surprising to learn is the idea that the little things really are what we remember most about experiences and which influence us in our future decisions.  Never underestimate the power of helping to make someone’s experience better, no matter what the experience!  Great food for thought, and a great topic for a future blog post :-)

We also got to check out a really interesting panel discussion hosted by the folks at McDermott, Will, and Emery LLP entitled “It’s a Small World After All: Solving Challenges in Multilingual Reviews”. They discussed the various different approaches that can be taken to handle multilingual data, from working extensively with in-country reviwers to, of course, machine translation.

Last but not least, no recap of Fest would be complete without the social element! Relativity hosted an amazing networking event at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry with great food, music, and company. It’ll be tough to top it next year, but we’ll certainly be on hand to find out!
