Iconic play key role in GALA 2017
In March we hit the road again for the annual GALA Language of Business Conference which this year took place in Amsterdam from March 26 to 29. Always a fantastic opportunity for high-level, growth-oriented discussions on emerging trends and technologies, this year saw over 450 participants from more than 40 countries represented – cementing GALA’s place as a premier localization conference.
Amsterdam saw an exciting lineup of speakers including our own CEO John Tinsley. John presented key insights on The New Frontier for Machine Translation: The Neural Frontier. Currently the hottest topic in Machine Translation, John’s talk was keenly received as he broke down exactly what Neural Machine Translation (NMT) is and how exactly it differs from existing technologies. He also shed some light on Iconic’s own experience in integrating NMT into our Ensemble Architecture.
As well as presenting, John also participated in the Continuous Delivery- Global Content at Top Speed session hosted by Dave Ruane of Xplanation. The panel examined the requirements of a robust localization process in the modern marketplace where the demand for instantly available content is ever increasing. The group explored how technologies like machine translation could be best incorporated into a continuous delivery strategy.
This year also saw the incorporation of podcasts into the GALA experience. John took part in an exciting discussion on Language Industry Trends hosted by Russell Goldsmith, founder of Audere Communications. The podcast answered questions submitted though social media and is available exclusively to GALA members.

GALA 2017 wrapped up with the delivery of the closing keynote by István Lengyel, former CEO of Kilgray Translation Technologies. István’s presentation was a celebration of the businesses in the language industry and he left delegates on a high as GALA 2017 drew to a close.
We are already looking forward to GALA 2018 which is heading to Boston.
In the meantime we have a busy few months ahead! We’ll be speaking on NMT again in May at SlatorCon in London. We are also excited to be joining a TAUS webinar on NMT in June, preceding LocWorld34 Barcelona.
