ACS – San Francisco – April 2 – 6

We are proud to announce that we will be attending the American Chemical Society (ACS) Spring National Meeting & Exposition from April 2-6 at The Moscone Center in San Francisco. The ACS National Meeting & Exposition attracts over 13,000 researchers, students, and chemical industry professionals, who gather to discuss the latest advances in the field of chemical research.

Our CEO, Dr. John Tinsley, will be there to deliver a presentation entitled “Making the old new again: Modern technology provides access to historical chemical information” alongside Sabine Kuhn and Kirk Schwall of Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). Together they will detail the collaboration between CAS and Iconic which led to the release of a new CAS solution named ChemZentTM.

The first and only English searchable translation of Chemisches Zentralblatt

As the oldest abstracting service, Chemisches Zentralblatt generated detailed abstracts of scientific research from 1840-1969. Historically, these abstracts have only been available for search in German. CAS, in conjunction with Iconic, has made this information accessible in ChemZentTM, the first and only English searchable translation of Chemisches Zentralblatt.

After its introduction in 1840, Chemisches Zentralblatt quickly grew to be an invaluable resource for chemists. While the content is freely accessible via various online platforms, locating specific information in the volumes of Chemisches Zentralblatt can be challenging. To find a topic or author, the user needs to know the year and volume of interest. Added to which the content was previously only available in German.

Leveraging Iconic’s cutting-edge Natural Language Processing and proprietary machine translation technology, and CAS’ extensive expertise processing scientific information, the two companies teamed to develop ChemZentTM. Three million English-translated Chemisches Zentralblatt abstracts are now available via ChemZentTM, a fully searchable database within SciFinder®.

Learn more about this breakthrough project on April 4 at 2:00pm in the Metropolitan I conference room at the Park Central San Francisco Hotel.
